According to "Tongzhi - Clan Genealogy", Ming, a son of King Wen of Zhou, was enfeoffed in the Mao fief (in the area of present - day Yiyang, Henan Province). He was known as (Boming) and served as a court official and the Minister of Works in the Zhou royal court for generations. His descendants also took the surname Mao. 3.
