Surname Origin

The surname "Ni" has the following origins: Firstly, it originated from the "Cao" clan and was derived from the name of a state. King Wu of the Zhou Dynasty enfeoffed Cao Xie in Zhu. The state of Ni was also known as the Small Zhu State (east of Teng County, Shandong). Duke Wen of Zhu (or Duke Wu of Zhu) enfeoffed his son Fei in Ni. During the Warring States period, it was destroyed by the State of Chu. Later, the people took "Ni" as their surname. Then they removed the "yi" radical and became the "Er" clan.
