The SITU family name originated in the pre-Qin period. In all dynasties, there was a position called "Situ", which was responsible for the country's administrative affairs. Some descendants of the incumbents of the Situ position took the official title as their surname and were called the SITU clan. Similar to surnames such as Sikong and Sima, Situ initially specifically referred to an official title.
