Migration and Distribution (Lack of information) The Yong surname is not included among the top 100 surnames in the Chinese mainland and Taiwan. The Yong surname originated from the Ji surname. In ancient times, during the Zhou Dynasty, after King Wu of Zhou, Ji Fa, defeated King Zhou of Shang and established his rule, he enfeoffed vassal states. He enfeoffed his younger brother, the thirteenth son of King Wen of Zhou, as the Lord of Yong (in the area of present - day Jiaozuo City, Henan Province; another theory suggests it was in the area of Qinyang County, Henan Province), and he was known as Lord Yong. Some of Lord Yong's descendants took the name of the fief as their surname and became the Yong clan, passing it down from generation to generation, thus forming the current Yong surname.
