His courtesy names were Xiaolan and Chunfan, and his later sobriquet was Shiyun. He was from Xian County, Zhili (now in Hebei Province). He was a famous official, bibliographer, and writer in the Qing Dynasty. He passed the imperial examination in the reign of Emperor Qianlong and served as the Minister of Rites and the Assistant Grand Councillor. During the Qianlong period, he served as the chief compiler of the Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature and presided over the compilation of the General Catalogue of the Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature and the Concise Catalogue of the Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature. After his death, he was posthumously awarded the title of "Wen Da". He was the author of Notes from the Thatched Cottage of Close Observation and Collected Works of Mr. Ji Wen Da. Ji Xin was a general under Liu Bang during the Chu-Han Contention. In a battle between Chu and Han, to cover Liu Bang's escape, he pretended to be Liu Bang and was later captured and beheaded by Xiang Yu.
