Origin of the surname "Jiang": 1. It comes from the Ying surname and is derived from a state. According to "Tongzhi - Shi Zu Lue - Derived from States", during the Zhou Dynasty, the descendants of Boyi were enfeoffed in the State of Jiang. Famous Story
Jiang Zong (519–594), also known as Jiang Zongchi, was from Kaocheng in the Northern and Southern Dynasties. He was skilled in writing and excelled at amorous poems. He first served in the Southern Liang Dynasty and later entered the Southern Chen Dynasty, where he became the Minister of the Household, so he was commonly called "Jiang Ling" in later generations. Later, he was favored by Emperor Houzhu of Chen. He and the emperor feasted and entertained day and night, neglecting state affairs, which led to the downfall of the country. After entering the Sui Dynasty, he was appointed as the High-ranking General. He passed away in Jiangdu. Lady Jiang (Concubine Mei) was a consort of Emperor Xuanzong (Li Longji) of the Tang Dynasty. She was extremely fond of plum blossoms and was known as Concubine Mei. After losing the emperor's favor, when Emperor Xuanzong presented her with a measure of pearls, she refused to accept them and sent back a poem, which included the line "Why use pearls to console my loneliness?"
