### Migration and Distribution The Jing surname is not ranked among the top 100 surnames on the Chinese mainland and in Taiwan. During the prosperous period of the Han Dynasty, the Jing clan members migrated from the Chu region to the Guanzhong area and settled in Shaan (now Shanzhou District, Henan Province). By the Jin Dynasty, the clan had branched out, and their footprints could be found in Shaanxi, Fujian, Jiangsu, Hubei and other places. The founder of the Yunyang Jing clan was Jing Jizhang, who passed the imperial examination and was appointed as the magistrate of Wujin County in Changzhou during the wars between the Sui and Tang Dynasties. After Jing Jizhang's death, his two sons, unable to return to their hometown due to the long journey, settled in Xingli Village, Zheliu Town, Danyang in 709 AD (the third year of Jinglong in the Tang Dynasty). Later, because there were five red wells in the village, and when knocked, they respectively emitted the melodies of "Gong, Shang, Jue, Zhi, Yu" with clear and sonorous sounds, the villagers renamed the village Jiajing (Good Well). Since then, the brothers Jing Jian and Jing Zhun have been respected as the founders of the Jing surname in Danyang. Since the Jing clan settled in Danyang, more than 1,000 years have passed.
