Migration and Distribution The Kuang surname is not ranked among the top 100 surnames in the Chinese Hundred Family Surnames on the Chinese mainland or in Taiwan. During the Spring and Autumn Period, the official in charge of Kuangyi (now Changyuan County, Henan Province) in the State of Lu was named Juxu, so he was also called Kuang Juxu. His descendants became the Kuang clan. Kuang Heng, a prime minister and scholar in the Western Han Dynasty, was from Cheng (now Zaozhuang, Shandong Province) in Donghai. When he was young, his family was poor but he was eager to learn. As there was no lamp oil for reading at night, he chiseled a hole in the wall to borrow the light from his neighbor's house.
