Migration and Distribution (Information missing) The Shu surname is not listed among the top 100 surnames in both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan. The Shu surname originated from the Jiang surname. "Shu" was an ancient weapon. It is said that a descendant of Yan Emperor Shennong invented the archery target, and Emperor Yao therefore enfeoffed him as the Marquis of Shu and bestowed the surname Shu on him. Another legend goes that Bailing, the grandson of Yan Emperor Shennong, fell in love at first sight with A Nü Yuán Fù, the wife of Wu Quan, a commoner, and the two had a secret relationship. Later, Yuán Fù gave birth to three sons for Bailing. The third son was named Shu, the inventor of the archery target. Therefore, Emperor Yao enfeoffed him as the Marquis of Shu and bestowed the surname Shu on him. The Shu clan are the descendants of Shu.
