Surname Origin
"The surname 'Wei' has the following origins: 1. It comes from the 'Qi' surname and uses the name of a state as the clan name. According to 'Tongzhi: Shizu Lue', they were the Yulong clan in the Xia Dynasty and the Shi clan in the Shang Dynasty. Also, as stated in 'Tangshu: Zaixiang Shixi Biao', after the State of Shiwei (south of Huaxian County, Henan Province), there was the Wei clan. 2. According to 'Hanshu: Xiyu Zhuan', there was also the Wei clan in the State of Shule during the Han Dynasty. 3. Legend has it that during the period between the Qin and Han dynasties, Han Xin once hid in Nanyue (the areas of Guangdong and Guangxi) to avoid revenge and took the left - hand part 'Wei' of the character 'Han' as his surname. Today, there are many people with the Wei surname among the Zhuang ethnic group in Guangxi. Another legend says that Da Peng, a grandson of Zhuanxu, was a vassal of the Xia Dynasty, and Shaokang enfeoffed Yuan Zhe, another grandson of Da Peng, in Shiwei."
