Surname Origin
The surname "Zheng" has its origin. It comes from the "?" surname and uses the name of the state as the clan name. According to the "Tongzhi", King Xuan of Zhou, Jing, enfeoffed his maternal younger brother in the State of Zheng (east of present-day Huaxian County, Shaanxi Province). This was Duke Huan of Zheng. After Duke Huan, Duke Wu of Zheng moved the capital to Xinzheng. It was a small state in the Spring and Autumn Period. Later, it was destroyed by the State of Han. Its remaining descendants scattered around Huaiyang and Shangqiu and took the original name of the state, "Zheng", as their surname.
