In ancient times, Tao, a collateral descendant of Qi, the ancestor of the Zhou Dynasty, is said to have had a palm print resembling the ancient Chinese character "Ju" on his palm when he was born. So he was named Jutao. Later, he once served as the leader of the Zhou people. Therefore, his descendants inherited the Ju surname. The descendants of Ju Wu, a doctor in the State of Yan during the Warring States period, all took Ju as their surname. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, some people with the Ju surname changed their surnames to other ones, such as "Qu", in order to avoid disasters.
