The Zhong clan are descendants of Huangdi and belong to the orthodox Huaxia surnames. In ancient times, there was a leader named Lu Zhong. Among Lu Zhong's grandchildren, some took the character "Zhong" (终) as their surname and passed it down through generations. Lu Zhong's ancestors were Huangdi. Huangdi had a grandson named Zhuanxu, whose son was Lao Tong. Lao Tong's son was Wu Hui, and Wu Hui's son was Lu Zhong. The people with the surname Zhong are descendants of Huangdi and the descendants of the dragon. Another branch of the Zhong clan originated from Zhong Gu, who was the Grand Historian of the Xia Dynasty and later became a minister of the Shang Dynasty. Some of his descendants took "Zhong Gu" as their surname.
