Origin of the surname "Shao": It originated from the Ji surname and is derived from the name of a fief. In the 11th century BC, Shi, the illegitimate son of King Wen of Zhou, was enfeoffed in the Zhao邑 (southwest of Qishan, Shaanxi Province today) and was commonly known as Duke Zhao. Later, he was transferred and enfeoffed in Ji (around Beijing today) and became the ancestor of the Yan State. Later, there was the Zhao family.

Famous Story

Shao Yong (1011–1077), courtesy name Yaofu, was from Fanyang (now Zhuoxian County, Hebei Province) in the Song Dynasty. He was proficient in the study of innate celestial phenomena and numbers. He lived in Luoyang for forty years and named his residence "Anlewo" (the Nest of Peace and Happiness). After his death, he was posthumously given the title of Kangjie. He authored works such as "Xiantian Tu" (The Diagram of the Primordial), "Huangji Jingshi" (The Great Plan of the Ages), "Yuqiao Wenda" (Dialogues between a Fisherman and a Woodcutter), and "Yichuan Jirang Ji" (Collection of Poems Composed in Leisure).
