Famous Story
Migration and Distribution (Lack of information) The Fu surname is not listed among the top 100 surnames in mainland China and Taiwan. The Fu surname is passed down from Fu Dengshi, a minister of Emperor Yu in ancient times. The family has a history of more than 4,000 years of having the surname. There is another origin of the Fu surname. It is said that in the early years of the Western Han Dynasty when Liu Bang was struggling to build his empire, there was a man named Jia who was good at witchcraft. He helped Liu Bang achieve many feats. Later, when Liu Bang became the emperor, he appointed Jia as the Chief Justice and bestowed the surname Fu on him, meaning to commend his meritorious assistance. Jia's descendants all took Fu as their surname and passed it down from generation to generation, becoming another source of the Fu surname today. According to "Xingshi Jijiu Pian", during the Han Dynasty, Emperor Gaozu bestowed the surname Fu on Fu Jia, the Chief Justice of the Han court. Its place of origin is the Henan Commandery in present - day Henan Province, which is 30 li northeast of present - day Luoyang County, Henan Province. All Fu families across the country migrated from Henan. There is also a prominent clan in the Jingzhao Commandery, which is in the area east of present - day Chang'an, Shaanxi.
